What is PT-USD3?
PT-USD3-29JAN2026 is a Principal Token that locks in fixed yield exposure to USD3, redeemable 1:1 for the underlying at maturity on January 29, 2026.
Understanding Principal Tokens
Principal Tokens (PT) in Pendle represent the principal portion of a yield-bearing asset after yield tokenization. When you purchase PT:
- You buy at a discount to the underlying asset value
- The discount represents your locked-in fixed yield
- At maturity, PT is redeemable 1:1 for the underlying
The current APY displayed reflects the implied fixed yield based on PT's market price and remaining time to maturity.
Maturity Date: January 29, 2026
Upon maturity:
- Each PT-USD3 can be redeemed for 1 USD3
- No YT is required for redemption (YT has zero value at maturity)
- Pendle provides automatic swap options to convert redeemed USD3 to any asset
Why the Higher APY?
PT-USD3 shows a higher implied yield compared to some other PT products. Higher PT yields can result from:
- Market pricing in uncertainty about the underlying asset
- Lower liquidity in the trading pair
- Newer or less established underlying asset
- Market expectations of declining yields on the underlying
Risks
- Underlying Asset Risk: USD3 stability and yield generation mechanisms
- Smart Contract Risk: Pendle protocol and underlying protocol vulnerabilities
- Liquidity Risk: May be harder to exit positions before maturity
- Fixed Rate Risk: If underlying yields increase, you miss the upside
- Redemption Risk: Depends on underlying asset remaining redeemable
